We arrived at Les Deux Magots on a rainy Fall afternoon.  After a short wait we were seated and approached somewhat quickly by a waiter that spoke good English, which is a plus.  After a glance at the menu and seeing that a Coke Zero was 7.50 Euro...WHAT?...we decided on water.  You could get a glass of wine for 8 Euro so I'm not sure why the astronomical price for a soda.

I had brought my family here after seeing a review that mentioned this restaurant had amazing Croque Monsieur.  After placing my order for said "sandwich" we waited and people watched.  We soon smelled something that was absolutely horrible and I ascertained the smell was coming from a couple that had just been seated.  I do not know if they had just not bathed within the last few months or so, but it was the worst smell I have ever smelled coming from a person that was not dead.  This is no fault of the restaurant but let me tell you, it put a damper on our meal.  The staff offered to move us and we declined because we just didn't want to be one of those Americans who call attention to themselves.  They eventually moved the couple to another table.

Our meal was delivered promptly and it was okay.  Not much meat or cheese on an open faced sandwich.  The flavor was good and the side salad had a lovely light dressing.  We ordered french fries as well and those were great!  The service is superb and elevated an okay experience to a four star.  The prices are pretty high and this is a place you could sit for awhile and enjoy the experience.

Make a stop for light food, drinks or coffee, as Hemingway or Picasso did.  Fast service makes it a good option for your walking tour in Left Bank.

First advantage of coming here is location.  Just across the street from St. Germán de Pres, oldest church in Paris.  Right at the heart of Left Bank.

Second advantage is adding your name to the many famous patrons.  Of course, you are in Paris so that is common for many restaurants.  Still, this placed ambience makes you feel that Hemingway is nearby.

Food options are somewhat limited.  I went for Grilled rockfish on bed of sweet potato and topped with grilled cheese.  Flavorful, well rounded flavor and contrasting textures.  I would eat it again.  Had Parisien beer and a regular apple pie.  I'd skip dessert and instead walk to nearby Amorino for ice cream.

Service was attentive, waiter had good suggestions and we did small talk.  Food was brought promptly, so good option if you want a decent bite in the middle of your Left Bank walk.

With its prominent location and historical pastime, one would be hard pressed to walk past this brasserie. And yet, when everything is striped away, the food was mediocre at best and prices sky high so, essentially your quintessential tourist trap. However, the service was pleasantly timely and our waiter was quite nice and engaging so there's the 1/2 star upgrade.

People watching at its best at Les Deux Magots.  The quintessential classic Parisian Bistro.  If you are a literary buff you have read how Ernest Hemingway used to sit here for hours.  On this day we sat outside and enjoyed Paris's favorite pastime... sitting in a a sidewalk cafe enjoying conversation and the surroundings.  Soaking in the view and also enjoying a delicious  afternoon coffee and pastry made our afternoon slow down.  The staff is elegantly dressed and service is impeccable if a bit reserved. I got a kick out of the fact that they served ice in the water, something you don't typically see in French restaurants.  Their porcelain service is classic and I left wanting to take some home!  It  is still one of the most popular spots for both locals and visitors to have a truly Parisian experience.  Paris Je'taime
